What official sources say about this category

Probiotics are live microorganisms. They appear in some fermented foods (such as yogurt) and in dietary supplements, and are named by genus, species and strain. Product labels often list colony-forming units (CFU). NIH has not set recommendations for probiotic use by healthy people (ODS Probiotics Fact Sheet for Consumers, updated 2025-11-17). Ask a doctor or pharmacist before starting any probiotic.
